Berry Bros. & Rudd is recruiting two Buying Assistants to support our Buying department. One role will be based at our Basingstoke office in Hampshire, and the other will be based at our Ingate office, Battersea, London.

About the Buying team:

  • Responsible for sourcing the many hundreds of wines that the company sells every year, both in the UK and abroad.
  • The company sells to all routes to market, including private customers, hotels and restaurants, independent merchants and multiples. The Buying team is required to understand and fulfil requirements for all these sectors.

The role involves:

  • Supporting Buyers with their supplier relationships, product selection, range scope and management, price negotiations, data sourcing and interfacing with sales channels.
  • Providing effective administrative support to their Buyer(s) and support, for example, by organising buying trips or dealing with shipping and finance queries.
  • Acting as a secondary point of contact for suppliers.
  • Regularly reporting on sales and profits.
  • Collating and presenting marketing collateral.
  • The possibility to lead a project, eg the sourcing of a new wine, under the guidance of a Buyer.

The right candidate:

  • Will be fluent in languages appropriate to areas of assignment (ideally French and/or Spanish) and have flexibility to travel overseas.
  • Will be confident with Microsoft Word applications and have experience of non-Microsoft computer programmes.
  • Will have sound mathematical skills, attention to detail and strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Might have previous experience in the wine trade (preferable).
  • Might have completed the WSET Diploma (preferable).
