Decanter is the world’s pre-eminent consumer wine media brand. It comprises the magazine, two websites, two leading wine competitions and both Europe’s and China’s premier consumer wine events.

Decanter is looking to recruit an Account Manager to promote and sell entries for the Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA) and Decanter Asia Wine Awards (DAWA) to wine producers from Spain and South America.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge and an interest in wine, as well as experience of business- to-business sales. You will be well organised, good at planning your time and able to structure and monitor a sales campaign. You should be confident liaising and negotiating with people at all levels and from different nationalities. You should enjoy communicating with people in Spanish by phone, email, and at fairs and events. You must be prepared to travel.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining and growing competition entries from existing submitters
  • Building relations with wine producers, regional producer associations, importers, distributors and retailers in order to grow the sales database and expand the reach of the awards
  • Working with the Awards Sales Manager to identify regions with potential for growth or potentially weak databases and devise plans to exploit or protect these
  • Contributing to discussions on the effectiveness of DWWA/DAWA sales, data, and communications and propose suggestions for improvement
  • Playing a proactive role in awards marketing, contributing to content creation, translations and scheduling to maximise the effectiveness of our communications
  • Keeping up to date on news, activities and market trends in the wine industry
  • Monitoring activities of our key competitors and assist the Awards Sales Manager in completing competitor benchmarking
  • Playing an active role in the Decanter awards team’s responsibilities at trade shows, Decanter Awards events, and providing customer service to entrants
  • Managing responsibility for awards-related travel, following budgets and financial guidelines
  • Working with the wider Decanter organisation to maximise the success of the Awards programmes


Desired skills and experience:

  • Experience of business-to- business sales and a commitment to meeting individual and team targets
  • Wine knowledge or knowledge of the wine industry
  • Fluency in Spanish in a business context is essential, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills both in Spanish and English
  • A great team player prepared to go the extra mile to achieve team objectives
  • Strong client relationship skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work with Excel, particularly using filters and mail merge
  • Experience using Client Relationship Management (CRM) systems, such as Salesforce (ideal but not essential)
