How to open a bottle of wine with a key

Avid readers of db will already be well-versed on how to open a bottle of wine with a shoe, but what about a key?

An invaluable skill if ever caught short of a corkscrew, the trick is to force the key into the cork diagonally, using the key as a handle to rotate and pull the cork simultaneously… apparently. Perhaps easier said than done?

You-tuber Dave Hax shows you how it’s done…

I once did this with my car key while staying at an hotel in Eastbourne.
The key broke and I had to call the AA to obtain a new key.

I did this and broker my car key while staying in an hotel in Eastbourne.
I had to call the AA out to obtain a new key.

  3. Is there some shortage of corkscrews? Why are people even embarking upon the idea of a bottle of wine without the key implement required? Perhaps there are articles on how to jump from a plane without a parachute, or how to cut a sausage without a knife – or perhaps those people just choose to do something else, for which they are properly equipped. Surely the simplest solution if you don’t have a corkscrew is to buy a bottle with a screwcap, no?
But the web is full of people risking disfigurement by opening bottles with knives, coathangers, corn cob holders, paperclips and hammers. People would be far better off exercising their considerable ingenuity on finding a shop which sells corkscrews.

Tried it yesterday and duly broke my house key. Ho-hum, just another night on the park bench……
