Cognac brand to release Malkovich film in 100 years

Cognac brand Louis XIII has made a film starring John Malkovich, which imagines the world 100 years from now, and locked the footage in a bulletproof, time-automated safe ensuring it won’t be seen for another century.

Directed by Robert Rodriguez, the film is appropriately titled 100 Years and envisions what Earth might be like one hundred years from now. However the vast majority will only ever see the trailer, as the film won’t be released until 2115, when this year’s Louis XIII Cognac will be ready to release.

Not even the stars of the film will get to see the film, as to ensure footage is not leaked before its November 18, 2115 release date, the film has been placed in a bulletproof safe that will open automatically in 100 years. It cannot be opened with a code or a key and will open automatically regardless of access to a power source, guaranteeing that the film will not be seen before 2115.

“When I was first approached I really loved the idea… I mean, in a way I wish all the films I made wouldn’t have been seen for a hundred years”, said John Malkovich of his part in the film. “I don’t know how much that would change the way they are regarded”.

Three trailers have been released to highlight the film, each one depicting a different version of what Earth might be like a century from now;  one overtaken by nature, another ruled by technology, and a third in which humanoid robots have taken control of the earth.

One thousand guests from around the world have already received an exclusive invitation to give to their descendants to attend the premiere of “100 Years”, on November 18, 2115, at the House of LOUIS XIII in Cognac, France.

“LOUIS XIII is a true testament to the mastery of time, and we sought to create a proactive piece of art that explores the dynamic relationship of the past, the present, and the future,” said Ludovic du Plessis, global executive director for LOUIS XIII Cognac.
