Bloggers make Muscadet magic at Billingsgate

A group of bloggers were invited to take part in a Muscadet “adventure” at Billingsgate Market, tasked with pairing the “quintessential Loire white wine” with fresh fish.

The bloggers were divided into nine teams and dispatched to the Billingsgate Fish Market in London – the largest inland fish market in the UK – whose merchants sell on average 25,000 tonnes of seafood each year.

Organised by Sopexa on behalf of Loire Valley Wines, each team was tasked with creating the perfect fish dish to pair with a range of Muscadet wines.

“When selecting a wine to go with fish and shellfish, the main rule is to choose something which is subtle, fresh and does not overpower the often delicate flavours of the dish”, the bloggers were advised. “Muscadet is an ideal match thanks to its mineral and citrus flavour profile. What’s more – the wines have a delicate spritz and iodine saltiness which lifts the flavours of the fish.”
