Almaviva Masterclass
Join Michel Friou and Almaviva, in association with The Drinks Business, who will be presenting a masterclass to launch the 2016 vintage, which will also include some superb back vintages in a vertical tasting.

Almaviva represents a unique partnership between Baron Phillippe de Rothschild (of Chateau Mouton Rothschild) and Concha y Toro, which was formed in 1996, with the aim of creating an international equivalent to Bordeaux Grand Cru Classé. Almaviva is a blend of classic Bordeaux varieties grown amongst some of Chile’s finest terroir and produced with French knowledge and tradition.

The masterclass led by Chief Winemaker, Michel Friou will mark the launch of the 2016 vintage. There will also be an opportunity to taste a number of back vintages and Michel will discuss the subtle ways in which the vintages have changed, and demonstrate the favourable way in which the wine ages.

Cabernet Sauvignon is the main variety grown by at the Almaviva Estate, which is one the most prestigious parcels of land in Chile. The final blend also includes Carmenère, Cabernet Franc and Merlot in different quantities in each vintage.

Michel Friou originally from France has worked on the vineyard since 1988. He became head winemaker in 2007 having previously worked at Chateau Margaux, Cape Mentelle and Lapstolle with Michel Rolland. He will share his thoughts and understanding of the terroir and his approach towards selection and producing the cuvee to meet the exacting standards of the very best international fine wines.
