New director of Consorzio Tutela Vini DOC Delle Venezie named

The consortium for Delle Venezie DOC, Italy’s second largest designation of controlled origin, has announced Flavio Innocenzi as its new director.

Innocenzi’s background is in food industries, the trade fair sector, and advocating for the protection of DOP (Denominazione di Origine Protetta) products on international markets. The Consorzio’s board of directors unanimously chose Innocenzi for the role, as chair Albino Armani explained: “…the moral, cultural characteristics and a past of experience entirely aimed at protecting and promoting Italian agri-food have found in our Director the right figure to effectively lead the DOC delle Venezie in the strategic path of strengthening its identity values started in recent years.”

The director position had been unfilled since the death of Bepi Catarin in 2020, though Consorzio technician Nazareno Vicenzi had undertaken some of the role’s duties in the intervening years.

Of this “new adventure”, Innocenzi said: “The development potential of the Delle Venezie Denomination of Origin, the calibre of the producers and their great ability to project themselves onto foreign markets, as well as the systemic dimension of this Consortium, convinced me that this, in perspective, is one of the most interesting projects in the national and international wine scene.”

“I am proud to be able to contribute to the promotion of a production tradition that has made the history of Italian wine in the world. It is no coincidence that Italian Pinot Grigio is increasingly imitated all over the world; and as such, it represents a precious heritage to be protected, intimately linked to its origin, the Veneto area,” he concluded.

A statement from the Consorzio notes that among Innocenzi’s first objectives in this new role is to strengthen promotional activities at a national level. As part of this, the Consorzio will be developing “synergies” between PDO-certified Italian foods and wines.
