db recommends: Sangiovese Reset
On 7 March, Sangiovese Reset will be returning for its second edition, bringing a multitude of expressions of one of Italy’s signature red varieties to London.
The event, taking place in Lindley Hall, 80 Vincent Square from 10am to 6pm, will provide a full-day immersion in Sangiovese-forward wines. This trade-only event allows visitors to taste either single varietal ones, or those which are at least 80% Sangiovese, so as to really understand the complexities and nuances of this celebrated variety.
In addition to producers from Brunello Di Montalcino, including Banfi and Castiglion del Bosco, and Chianti Classico, such as Ruffino and Castello di Volpaia, other regions that are perhaps less well known for cultivating Sangiovese will be represented, including Romagna, Umbria, Le Marche and Basilicata.
In addition there will be three seminars on different aspects of the variety:
• Chianti Classico’s hotly-anticipated introduction of Unità Geografiche Aggiuntive (UGA), or village sub zones. Led by Alessandro Masnaghetti, Italy’s undisputed mapping expert, this seminar will see the launch of the first addition of his Chianti Classico Atlas, and Fontodi’s Giovanni Manetti.
• Donne in Quota: four women, four top estates (I Fabbri, Terreno, Podere Castellinuzza and Tregole) introducing their high altitude wines.
• Romagna Sangiovese over three decades. This seminar will examine the ageing capability of some of the region’s finest Sangioveses, with vintages going back more 30 years.
