Banfi reorganises its governance model

The famed Tuscan producer has announced that its governance model has been reorganised for the purposes of “cultural continuity and greater integration between US and Italian management”.

Banfi, which now cultivates vines in Montalcino, Bolgheri, Chianti Classico and also lower Piedmont, was founded in 1978 by Italian-American brothers John and Harry Mariani.

As part of this reorganisation, Enrico Viglierchio, general manager of the group, will also be taking on the role of chairman of the board of directors of Banfi Società Agricola Srl. Gabriele Mazzi, CFO of Banfi Srl and Banfi Società Agricola Srl, will be supporting him as vice-president.

Sales and marketing director Rodolfo Maralli has been appointed chairman of the board of Banfi Srl. Enrico Viglierchio, Gabriele Mazzi, and Elizabeth Koenig, the latter of whom was recently appointed hospitality director of the Castello Banfi Resort, have all been appointed vice-presidents of the Banfi Srl.

Cristina Mariani-May, Philip Calderone, and Jason Arfin are also now members of both boards of directors.

Another development has been the creation of an executive committee, chaired by Mariani-May, with members of both boards of directors, focused on strategic planning and Banfi’s medium/long-term direction.

Mariani-May said: “I thank the entire Banfi team for the journey made and, above all, for the radiant future that we still have to write. A warm thanks go to Remo Grassi [Banfi’s director of human resources from 1980 to 2022] for his over 40 years of passion and dedication to our company. The new organisation projects us towards a new way of working together, as a single company, to meet and overcome the challenges of the future: for a better wine world”.
