John Malkovich to speak at Master of Wine Symposium

Among the people due to speak at next June’s Institute of Masters of Wine Symposium in Germany will be American actor John Malkovich – who produces wine in southern France.

As previously reported by the drinks business, Malkovich and his long-term partner, Nicole Peyran, planted vines at their farmhouse in the Vaucluse region in south-east France in 2008, and produced their first vintage in 2011.

Unusually for Provence, Malkovich’s organic estate is planted with four hectares of Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon, which are used to make red and rosé wines for his Les Quelles de la Coste range.
The property is located in the mountain village of Lacoste in Vaucluse, where the Marquis de Sade lived.

Malkovich will feature at the IMW Symposium, along with a range of other speakers, including 2022’s db Woman of the Year Dr Laura Catena as well as master of wine and critic Jancis Robinson.

Open to anyone to attend, the symposium will run over four days from 29 June to 2 July 2023. The hosts for this seminal event are the Deutsches Weininstitut (DWI), the city of Wiesbaden and the federal state of Hessen.

It is expected to be a sell-out event with early bird ticket sales launching this week via www.imwsymposium.com

Monika Reule, managing director of the DWI, said, “In 2023, the who’s who of the international wine community will gather in Wiesbaden for ground-breaking seminars and tasting-sessions. We will ensure that participants remember Germany fondly, not only as outstanding hosts but also as an important wine nation with great landscapes and outstanding wines.”

The IMW’s symposium traditionally takes place every four years, the previous event was held in Spain, 2018. However, the 2022 symposium, initially planned for Adelaide, Australia, had to be postponed due to the pandemic.
