Bollinger Group acquires Hubert Brochard in Sancerre

The Bollinger family has extended its presence in the Loire by adding the historic Sancerre estate of Hubert Brochard to its portfolio.

More than a century old, the estate is currently managed by the fourth and fifth generations of the Brochard family. The estate covers 60 hectares of Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé and the winery is located in Chavignol. While known for its Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir is also cultivated there and used in the production of reds a rosés.

While known for its Champagne, under the Bollinger and Ayala labels, the acquisition of the Hubert Brochard estate is not the first of the group’s investments in the Loire. In 1973, it acquired Maison Langlois-Chateau and in 2016 Château de Thauvenay in Sancerre was also added to the fold. The Hubert Brochard estate benefits from “fantastic terroir”, according to Maison Langlois-Chateau CEO François-Régis de Fougeroux.

Bollinger Group president and CEO Etienne Bizot said: “The acquisition of Hubert Brochard estate represents a unique opportunity to consolidate our footprint in this fantastic region and to continue to promote, in France and internationally, its savoir-faire and the very high quality of its wines.”

Hubert Brochard estate president Daniel Brochard said: “Each generation has participated in the development of our family estate and we are extremely proud of what we have accomplished, in full respect for tradition and for the work of the oldest generations.”

Brochard continued: “The hand-over to our partner Bollinger Group will ensure the continuity of this journey fueled by the same values of entrepreneurship, family spirit, and obsession for quality.”

The price of the acquisition has not been disclosed.
