Five tipples to try this English Wine Week

English Wine Week is now on, running from Saturday 18 to Sunday 26 June. To celebrate in style, we’ve got a list of English tipples perfect for a glass to sip in the sunshine.

Everflyht’s English Sparkling duo

Five tipples to try this English Wine Week

East Sussex wine estate Everflyht has just released its debut wines, a Sparkling Brut NV and a sparkling Rosé de Saignée 2019, just in time to join the English Wine Week celebrations.

The premium English Sparkling wines are made from small parcels of fruit grown on the single vineyard estate in Ditchling.

Everflyht Brut Sparkling NV is a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, with a small percentage of Pinot Meunier. A portion of the blend has spent time in old and new oak, with 20% made up of Everflyht’s reserve wine. Just 6,000 bottles are available, with an RRP of £28.

Everflyht Rosé de Saignée 2019 is a blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Pinot Meunier, with a portion of the blend matured on lees in old oak barrels. Around 1,400 bottles are available, with an RRP of £40.

Busi Jacobsohn Wine Estate’s Blanc de Noirs 2018

Five tipples to try this English Wine Week

Busi Jacobsohn, the English sparkling wine estate located in the High Weald of East Sussex, has launched its debut Blanc de Noirs in time for the celebrations.

The limited edition 2018 vintage, with 36 months on lees, is a Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier blend, created with fruit from Busi Jacobsohn’s 5 hectare single vineyard.

As with the existing Cuvée Brut and Rosé Extra Brut, the Blanc de Noirs is a vintage sparkling wine. Susanna Busi Jacobsohn and Douglas Jacobsohn, the married couple behind the brand, are firm believers in reflecting the year in each wine, and will only produce a wine if they believe the quality is good enough.

The couple are Swedish but settled in the UK several years ago. Their dream of producing wine was realised when they acquired the estate, which is around 5 miles from Tunbridge Wells.

Exton Park’s Reserve Blends

Exton Park, the 60-acre single vineyard, aims to push boundaries with its range of Reserve Blends. The wines draw on a 10 year library of reserve wines as opposed to a base vintage wine, a method rarely seen in English sparkling wine.

Situated on the South Downs National Park, the first vines of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier varieties were planted in 2003.

Exton Park offers a range of reserve blends including RB 45 Blanc de Blanc, RB 32 Brut, RB 23 Rosé, RB 28 Blanc de Noirs. The wines are stocked at Fortnum & Mason, Selfridges, and served at Lime Wood Hotel Group and Soho House Group.

Langham Rosé

If you are looking for a pink sparkling wine for summer, look no further than the award-winning Rosé NV from the Langham Wine Estate in Dorset.

This critically-acclaimed Rosé has a base vintage of 2018, blended with 15% reserve. It is made up of 46% Pinot Noir, 36% Chardonnay and 18% Pinot Meunier.

Pairing suggestions include: Salmon Linguine, Asparagus & Pea Risotto, Salmon & Cream Cheese Blinis, Scrambled Egg & Bagels, Tuna steak or Sushi.

Terlingham Vineyard’s new summer wines

To celebrate English Wine Week, Kent’s eco-friendly Terlingham Vineyard has released two new vegan-friendly wines.

Terlingham’s 2021 Chardonnay and 2021 Rosé both benefit from the Vineyard’s natural farming approach to production, which doesn’t use any artificial chemicals or fertilisers.

The Terlingham family pride themselves on their handcrafted approach to production. Each of the 5,500 vines are hand picked, and even the traditional paper labels are applied by hand.

In other news, a PDO for Sussex Sparkling Wine was approved last week in momentous news for the English fizz hub. Read more on that here.
