These festive spirits should be on your radar for Chinese New Year

As Chinese New Year beckons, these very limited edition whiskies and gins are perfect for celebrating those festive moments.

Scotch whisky distillery Johnnie Walker has released three new limited editions designed by Chinese artist, Shan Jiang. The three are Johnnie Walker Blue Label, John Walker & Sons XR 21 and John Walker & Sons King George V. The inspiration for the designs were taken from the skyscrapers and bungalows in the artist’s home city of Shanghai, as well as from traditional superstitions.

Glenfiddich has launched a limited Reserva Rum Cask 21 Year Old in special packaging to celebrate Chinese New Year. Designed by renowned Chinese artist Rlon Wang, the 2022 limited edition bottle completes the final edition in the designed series trilogy of Chinese New Year gift packs. The collection is inspired by the epic journey of Charles Gordon, son-in-law of Glenfiddich founder William Grant, to bring the Speyside Scotch whisky to the world. Two hundred bottles of the the 21 Year Old Chinese New Year Limited Edition will be available for purchase as NFT on BlockBar.com at 10AM EST on the first day of the Lunar New Year (1 February 2022), on a first come first served basis, priced at 0.15 ETH each.

Hong Kong gin brand Fok Hing Gin has announced a limited-edition release for Lunar New Year. Dubbed “Boundless Longevity”, it is created based on the flavours of traditional neen go (new year rice cakes). The result is a spicy ginger gin with notes of honey and coconut blended within. It is hoped that a sip of the gin will bring back sweet memories of the big reunion meals over the festive period.

Hong Kong craft gin distillery N.I.P Distilling has created a special edition label 800M (捌億). The gin is a combination of eight botanicals including 50-year-aged tangerine peel, juniper berries, mandarin, lotus seeds, black dates, ginger, gold flakes and Wuyi Shuixian, also known as the Chinese Sacred Lily. It also contains a premium oolong tea from the Wuyi Mountains in Fujian. The result is a fragrant gin packed with traditional flavours, where citrus and smokiness combine.  This special label is limited to 888 bottles only.
