Yes, it’s now almost 10 years since Game of Thrones first graced our television screens, ushering in with it a whole legion of impassioned fans and a veritable cornucopia of leading character deaths.

Naturally, being the worldwide phenomenon it is, Game of Thrones has boasted no small number of commercial food and beverage tie ups over the years. The show has partnered with the likes of Johnnie Walker and Vintage Wine Estates on product lines over the years.

Over the course of the series, New York brewer Ommegang released 15 official Game of Thrones beers.

Yet now, the show is partnering with a different brewer for the release of a new range of official beers. On 17 April, brew fans and Game of Thrones diehards alike will be able to try Mikkeller Iron Anniversary IPA.

Yes, Danish brewer Mikkeller has created the new range of Game of Thrones beer, which are set to be sold around the world.

“From the very beginning, collaborations have been one of the key elements in Mikkeller’s universe and are one of the things we have the most fun with and love the most,” said Mikkel Bjergsø, Mikkeller’s founder and creative director, “We have done a lot of them, but this is without a doubt the biggest so far, and we are extremely proud and happy to get this opportunity. We are looking forward to brewing a lot of fantastic beers and sharing them with the series’ dedicated fan base and other beer lovers.”

Mikkeller’s Iron Anniversary IPA is a 7% ABV New England-style IPA that boasts a “bright aroma of fresh pineapple, mango, peach, rose petals and a hint of vanilla [followed by] flavors of passionfruit, papaya, mango and berries [with] a hint of hop bitterness”.

Meanwhile, two further beers are being plotted for release this year, with several more to follow over the coming years.

Back in 2019, Diageo released its final Game of Thrones-inspired single malt whisky. You can read more about the bottle here.
