Garage Wine Company joins Freixenet Copestick
Boutique Chilean winery Garage Wine Co. has struck a distribution deal with UK supplier Freixenet Copestick that covers the on-trade and online via Jascots and Slurp.
The Freixenet Copestick sales team will also sell Garage Wine Co.’s small batch Garnacha, Monastrell, Pais /Cinsault, Semillon and Cabernet Franc to indie merchants in the UK and Republic of Ireland.
As part of the deal, Freixenet Copestick will be bringing in some back vintages of Garage Wine Co. releases, along with previously unseen small parcel wines.
Based in the Maule Valley, Garage Wine Co has long championed dry farmed, old bush vine wines from Maule and Itata that are made on a small scale, with a focus on Carignan.
As the name suggests, the company was founded 20 years ago in a garage by husband and wife team Derek Mossman Knapp and Pilar Miranda.
“When I met Derek and tasted the wines, I knew they would be a perfect fit for our growing organisation. They‘re game-changers. We already overtrade in Chile and these wines were so unique that I could sense the opportunity.
“They will complement the wines we already ship from Chile and grow the category with South American old vines. I was impressed with the way Derek and Pilar do business,” said Freixenet Copestick managing director, Robin Copestick.
“Not only are they making wine in a sustainable way, but they support the farmers and local communities. They seek to create excellence over short term gains,” he added.
Derek Mossman-Knapp said of the deal: “We were not looking to make a change in distributor, we have spent the last few years getting closer to the farming, but when I met Robin in Chile, and he spoke of what Freixenet Copestick is up to in the UK I was energised.
“I know how online wine business are getting suppliers closer to customers, and how quickly they are growing. It is a great opportunity to be involved with Slurp. And Jascots will give us the focus in the on-trade where we have been strong in the past.
“The Freixenet Copestick sales team will find us more opportunities with the indies. There will be exciting news soon about a project we begun in times of Covid and together with Freixenet Copestick we shall take this to new heights.”
Freixenet Copestick supplies wines across the UK off and on-trade with a strong branded portfolio. The company owns the online retailer Slurp and on-trade suppler Jascots.
