Napa Valley Vintners releases further details about upcoming auction

Napa Valley Vintners will showcase a collection of nearly 100 exclusive library wine lots at its inaugural Direct from the Cellar: Napa Valley Library Wine Auction this month.

The news follows the announcement last month that Napa Valley Vintners would be partnering with Zachys for an auction in February featuring cellar stock donated by its members.

Among the lots due to go under the hammer are the first vintages of Napa producer BOND.

Taking place from 11 to 20 February, Direct from the Cellar: Napa Valley Library Wine Auction will feature “extremely rare wines” which are sourced directly “from the cellars of Napa Valley’s most sought-after wineries”.

Lots will include the first vintages BOND, bottles from Charles Krug spanning six decades and dating back to 1964, five vintages of 100-point Harlan magnums, a collection of six-litre imperials of Opus One covering five decades, three magnums of Screaming Eagle, and a 12-litre bottle from Sloan Estate.

Linda Reiff, president and CEO of Napa Valley Vintners, said: “Wines from Napa Valley stand for the highest quality. For more than 150 years, our wineries have balanced tradition with innovation in their quest to make world class wines and have cultivated a spirit of collaboration that is represented in this spectacular collection.”

Online bidding in the auction, which is being overseen by Zachys, will start on 11 February and will close via the live-streamed auction on 20 February at 3pm PST.

All proceeds from the auction will be given to programmes which “promote, protect and enhance Napa Valley,” a statement noted.

During the bidding process, wine lovers and collectors are also invited to join Antonio Galloni, founder and CEO of Vinous Media, who will host five sessions starting on 11 February focusing on different topics such as Napa’s AVAs, unexpected varieties and what inspires the valley’s next generation winemakers.

Jeff Zacharia, president of Zachys, added: “The assemblage of wines going to auction is an amazing opportunity for wine collectors to invest in rare and valuable wines coming out of America’s most prestigious wine region. We are thrilled to partner with Napa Valley Vintners to present this collection to our top bidders.”
