Italy’s biggest online wine retailer posts €17m rise in revenue

Italy’s largest online wine and spirits retailer, Tannico, which is part-owned by Campari, has reported a near €20 million rise in revenue during 2020.

In figures released this week, Tannico has posted results showing revenue growth of 82% to reach a value of €37.5 million for 2020, compared to 2019’s total of €20.6 million.

Last year, the Campari Group acquired a 49% interest in the e-commerce drinks platform, which the multi-national drinks group said had provided Tannico with “the right support to expand rapidly and globally”.

According to a report on 2 February, Tannico shipped more than 2.5 million wine bottles from 400,000 orders in 2020, representing an increase on the previous year of 95%.

The online drinks retailer, which was founded eight years ago, also broke a record by receiving more than 7,500 orders in a single day.

Last year, Tannico launched an additional service called Tannico Express to provide a last-minute, home aperitif service in the city of Milan. It is a new iPhone and Android App that allows customers to take delivery of their desired bottle of wine and spirits at the right temperature within 90 minutes.

The retailer also entered the offline world in 2020, with the opening of a Tannico wine Bar in Milan’s via Savona 17, where more than 600 different drinks can be tried.
