Liberty to distribute Mullineux wines

Liberty Wines has been appointed as the UK agent for South African labels Mullineux and Leeu Passant.

Liberty has taken over the distribution of the wines from Fileds, Morris & Verdin, a leading wholesaler in the UK whose portfolio is being parcelled off as its own operations are wound down (a statement is expected early next week).

The wines from both labels will be available through Liberty from late September.

Chris and Andrea Mullineux founded their own estate in 2007 and are known for their ‘Single Terroir’ Chenin Blancs and Syrahs from the Swartland, the ‘Kloof Street’ range using fruit from across the region and their sweet straw wine is regarded as one of South Africa’s best.

In 2013 they partnered with Analjit Singh on a new project in Franschhoek called Leeu Passant where they work with some of the oldest vines planted in the Cape, such as the ‘Basson’ vineyard of dry-farmed Cinsault near Wellington which was planted in 1900.

David Gleave MW, managing director of Liberty Wines, says: “It is not without reason that Mullineux is one of the most lauded estates in South Africa. In short, Chris and Andrea Mullineux are producers of outstanding wines that are fresh and vibrant expressions of variety and site. We are thrilled to be able to offer them to our customers.”
