DJ BBQ and Ardbeg distillery show you how to cook fish on a whisky cask

Islay’s Ardbeg whisky distillery has joined forces with presenter and barbecue enthusiast Christian Stevenson (aka DJ BBQ) on a series of virtual cooking classes.

From Bacardi gin brand Bombay Sapphire to Kentish Town bar Ladies and Gentlemen, Instagram is awash with notable faces in the food and drinks industry teaching is how to step up our game in the kitchen during lockdown.

This month, Islay-based whisky distillery Ardbeg has added its own contribution to the virtual masterclass schedule, partnering with youtube star Stevenson, who hosts festivals and events under his alias, DJ BBQ.

Called The Smoke Sessions, DJ BBQ will guide people through the basics of creating smokey and flavourful barbecue dishes and whisky cocktails to serve with them on Ardbeg’s Instagram page. The drinks will be made with Ardbeg Ten, An Oa and Wee Beastie.

Stevenson will teach you how to cook “low and slow”, how to cook the perfect steak, and even how to cook fish on a whisky cask (see video below).

Whisky lovers can watch the live sessions for themselves from Friday 24 July at 8pm BST via Ardbeg’s Instagram.

People will also be able order a pre-made Maple and Bacon Old Fashioned for delivery across the UK via Mothership on the Drinks At Home platform for a limited time.

“My smoky barbecue recipes share so many characteristics with the flavours of Ardbeg whisky and they complement each other perfectly,” Stevenson said

“Remember, patience is key to maximise that wonderful flame-grilled flavour, it’s only done when it’s done. The Ardbeg Smoke Sessions series will show you that it’s easy to go beyond the realms of basic barbecue burgers with a little creativity and a ton of smoky goodness.”

The Smoke Sessions will also be accessible via Ardbeg’s social channels, including Youtube, Instagram and Facebook.
