ProWein 2020 cancelled due to coronavirus

Messe Düsseldorf, the organiser of trade show ProWein, has revealed that the event will not take place this year, but will run as scheduled in 2021.

The organiser announced at the end of last month that the show, the largest in the wine trade show calendar, was to be postponed due to the Covid-19 outbreak, and that new dates would be announced.

However, has now been advised that the trade show will not take place this year. The show will instead take place in 2021 from Sunday 21 March to Tuesday 23 March.

Erhard Wienkamp, managing director at Messe Düsseldorf, commented: “We have taken this decision in in-depth dialogue with our partner associations and key players in the industry.

“The special challenge here was there is only a very tight “trade fair window” open for the wine industry – one which is additionally narrowed down by the insecure situation created by the coronavirus,”

The decision has the backing of the German Wine Institute (DWI), a sponsor of ProWein.

Managing director of the DWI, Monika Reule, added: “We expressly welcome that Messe Düsseldorf was courageous enough to take this step, which is entirely in the interest of the wine industry. Weighing all the benefits and drawbacks Messe Düsseldorf has reacted in a considerate, prudent and right way to our mind.”
