6,000 glasses of English sparkling wine expected at Investec Derby

Caterers at the Investec Derby in Epsom predict that racegoers will work their way through some 6,000 glasses of English sparkling wine thanks to the Jockey Club’s its new sponsorship deal with producer Coates & Seely.

Coates & Seely announced it is the new sponsor of The Jockey Club in March, and will see its wines poured at 14 of the club’s 15 racecourses throughout the year.

Jockey Club staff are currently gearing up for the Investec Derby at its course at Epsom on 31 May, one of the most high-profile racing events in the UK racing calendar.

It is estimated that racegoers will drinks some 6,000 glasses of homegrown fizz.

As well as the punters themselves, Coates & Seely will also be offered to all winning owners and trainers after the races too.

At each race meet Coates & Seely will have an official presence as well in the shape of a classic 1952 British Leyland coach, liveried in green and off-white, and from which its wines can be sold to racegoers.

Rhys Owen, head chef of the Jockey Club, told the drinks business: “It’s very fitting that the finest British ingredients are complimented by the most delectable English wines. With the English wine industry growing as rapidly as it is, there’s a wine to suit every course, whether you order smoked salmon or lamb.

“I’m incredibly excited to see which fresh flavour combinations the English wine industry will produce next”
