P&O’s new ship to have onboard gin distillery and bar

Cruise and ferry operator P&O has revealed that its new ship, Iona, will have an onboard gin distillery and as well as a bar serving 30 different varieties of the spirit.

The 5,200 capacity ship is due to be launched in May 2020 and is currently being constructed at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany.

At an event held this week and hosted P&O Cruises wine expert Olly Smith it was revealed that gin is the popular drink on board.

The company’s current flagship, Britannia, likewise has a gin bar that serves 30 different gins, while last year, P&O commissioned a gin – Anderson’s named after its co-founder Arthur Anderson – blended by its own in-house team and produced at Summerhall Distillery in Edinburgh, the home of Pickering’s Gin.

The boat is also set to have four screen boutique cinema, a cheese and music list created by former bassist for Blur, Alex James, The Glass House restaurant with a wine list curated by Olly Smith and a gastro pub called the Keel and Cow.

Holidays on Iona will go on sale in September 2018.
