Skyy Vodka launches cans with engagement rings to support LGBT rights

Campari-owned vodka brand Skyy has unveiled a limited edition, pre-mixed lime and soda expression which features an ‘engagement ring’ in the place of the ring-pull to celebrate equal marriage rights in Australia.

Called Skyy Vodka Yyes, the new format features rainbow-coloured text on a blue can in what the vodka company calls a “world first” for the pre-mixed drinks market.

The cans have been unveiled to celebrate equal marriage rights in Australia, after same-sex marriage laws were approved in December 2017.

Nicole Stanners, marketing director for Skyy Vodka, said: “At Skyy we believe diversity should be celebrated.

“We are incredibly proud to celebrate marriage equality in Australia with the launch of the new Skyy Vodka Yyes can, especially if it’s encouraging loved up Aussies to get hitched!”

The company will donate AU$1 from the sale of every can to the Just Equal organisation which supports members of the LGBTIQ community in Australia.

Ivan Hinton-Teoh, founder of Just Equal, said: “We are proud to once again stand together with Skyy Vodka to show our support for equality and diversity in Australia.

“The marriage equality campaign has gone from strength to strength, and with the support of Skyy Vodka we can keep up the momentum so that sooner rather than later, LGBTI Australians can enjoy true equality.”

The cans will be available to purchase from Gazebo, Elizabeth Bay and Liquor on Oxford, Darlinghurst until 31 March.

Last year, Skyy Vodka teamed up with competitor Absolut to support same-sex marriage in Australia before it was voted on by the government. Using the tagline ‘The Skyy’s the limit when we have Absolut equality’ both brands promoted their message on social media.
