Coravin launches £899 upgrade with wine pairing app

Coravin, the company that allows wine lovers to enjoy their favourite bottles without having to remove the cork, has unveiled a new product that can connect via bluetooth with an app to allow users to manage their cellar, receive pairing suggestions and monitor the remaining gas and battery levels of the device.

Priced at £899, Coravin Model Eleven, set for release in September, is fully automatic (previous models had a clamp) and has the ability to monitor the remaining levels of argon gas and battery life, plus receive reminders for when the device needs cleaning, via Bluetooth, paired with the Coravin Moments app.

The app suggests either a wine for a particular occasion (David Lynch and ratatouille for instance), or music, literature, films and food based on the wines you own. Coravin Moments is powered by the huge wine database used by Delectable – an app owned by wine publication Vinous, to provide information on user’s wines.

A photo capture feature also enables users to add wines to their virtual wine cellar to refer to later.

Coravin CEO Frédéric Levy said: “We’re living in a time when people are prioritising unique, enriching experiences over material things. Wine, unlike any other beverage, sparks the senses and plays a pivotal role in creating memorable moments.”

Coravin products use technology that allows the user to pierce the cork with a tiny medical grade needle to force the wine out of the bottle, which is then topped up with argon gas to retain the quality of the wine remaining in the bottle.

The Coravin Model Eleven will be available to buy from September 2018 in Harrods, Selfridges, Fortnum & Mason, Majestic Wine and Harvey Nichols.
