Budweiser now brews its US beers with 100% renewable energy

Budweiser now brews all beers produced in the US with 100% renewable energy, the drinks brand announced this week.

All bottles and cans of Budweiser beers sold in America will sport a green symbol denoting their carbon-neutral production from Spring 2018.

As of January 2018, the AB InBev-owned brand has sourced power for its US production sites from Thunder Ranch, a wind farm in Oklahoma owned by green energy firm Enel, reports BusinessGreen.

The US is the first of Budweiser’s markets to go carbon-neutral in its production, and comes as part of a wider attempt by AB InBev to source 100% renewable electricity across all its operations within the next seven years.

Brian Perkins, Budweiser’s global vice president, said that he hopes the new beers, which openly advertise their green production, will help the brand to stay relevant with a new generation of ethically conscious consumers.

“We know that climate change is an important issue for consumers,” Perkins said. “However, they aren’t sure how their everyday actions can make a difference. The renewable electricity symbol helps consumers make smarter everyday choices that can have a positive, meaningful impact.”

AB InBev said it hopes to roll out the eco-friendly bottles worldwide as more of its breweries turn to renewable energy in the coming years.

Earlier this week, AB InBev announced it would raise the price of beers across its entire portfolio by up to 3.9% in the UK amidst economic pressures.
