WSET launches tasting app

The Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) has launched a new app where drinkers can make and record detailed tasting notes.

The ‘Tasting Notes’ app is built around the WSET’s Level 2 Systematic Approach to Wine that forms the basis of the trust’s teaching on how to approach and evaluate wine.

Taking the user on a simple progression through the wine’s appearance, aroma and taste, users can record as much or as little information about the wine as they choose, including pictures of the label, and there is also a function for users to make an assessment of wine they’re tasting blind.

The app is free for all and while it may be of particular help to those students enrolled in a course, the WSET has said it also hopes it will prove a “great tool for all wine tasters”.

Users can store their tasting notes and the app currently includes a database of over 300 wine producing countries and regions, over 100 grape varieties and a lexicon of commonly used aroma and flavour descriptions.

The app is available through both iTunes and Google Play.
