Halle Berry reveals real reason she downed half a pint of whiskey

In an interview on ITV’s This Morning, Hollywood actress Halle Berry said that her Kingsman co-star Channing Tatum had dared her to knock back the whiskey, after liberally filling her pint glass with a bottle of Statesman Reserve, the promotional whiskey created in partnership with Old Forester.

Berry downed the whiskey live on stage while promoting her new film, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, at the San Diego Comic Con in July. Her stunt has attracted much speculation as to whether the whisky was real and whether the whole thing had been a publicity stunt.

While it undeniably made headlines, Berry has insisted that the booze was indeed genuine.

In an ITV interview alongside another Kingsman co-star, Mark Strong, Berry said that Tatum had dared her to down her drink.

She said: “We are the Statesmen, so our agents work at a distillery, and so they [the film bosses] thought at Comic Con it’d be great if everyone got a shot of whiskey set in front of them. Like, Woohoo!”

However, instead of a shot glass, Berry opted for a pint glass.

“And then Channing [Tatum] kept pouring and pouring and pouring, and I’m like, ‘We’re in front of 3,000 people Channing, what are you doing?’

“But I’m not a girl who you want to dare to do anything, because I’m dumb enough to do it.”

After Tatum filled her glass, the room chanted “chug” before Berry downed the ‘pint’ in a few seconds.

As to whether the whiskey was real, when asked how the rest of her day had gone, Berry responded with: “I don’t know!”
