Usain Bolt leads Mumm’s Kentucky Derby celebrations in NYC

Usain Bolt launched the world’s largest Champagne toast as he presided over the Kentucky Derby victory celebrations at Maison Mumm’s offices in New York.

Usain Bolt showed off his Champagne pouring skills at the event in New York.

Following this year’s Kentucky Derby (Saturday 6 April) decorated Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt, in his new role as CEO (chief entertainment officer,) was put in charge of the annual derby festivities.

According to Mumm, Bolt ‘broke with the traditional conventions of celebration,’ taking over the DJ booth and showcasing ‘Mumm’s enduring partnership with the Kentucky Derby, along with the Maison’s values of “Dare, Win, Celebrate”.’

Mumm’s new bottle design, created by Ross Lovegrove to celebrate the 140th anniversary of the iconic Mumm Cordon Rouge, was on display, after it was recently awarded gold at this year’s Grand Prix Stratégies du Design.

Bolt’s well-documented love of dancing and music even encouraged Mumm’s cellar master, Didier Mariotti, to take a turn on the decks, leading what has been described as a ‘memorable DJ battle’ with Bolt.

Addressing the crowd at the event, Bolt said: “I support Mumm’s efforts to energise and excite the world, just as I do on the track.”

“As CEO I work alongside the executive team to make sure Mumm continues to push boundaries and inspire consumers to celebrate their greatest achievements and strive to be the best version of themselves”.

Cesar Giron, chairman and CEO of Martell Mumm Perrier-Jouet added: “We’re delighted to be continuing our relationship as the Kentucky Derby’s official Champagne partner.”

“Like Mumm, the Kentucky Derby celebrates sporting prowess and determination, and is steeped in history. Usain Bolt also fits perfectly with the unconventional and daring ethos of our iconic Champagne house.”
