Spanish petrol station offers Champagne pitt-stop
Residents in the wealthy municipality of Pozuelo de Alarcón, a suburb of Madrid, can pick up vintage Champagne and €1,000 caviar from their local BP garage.
As reported by El Pais, the petrol station stocks 500 different wines, from Vega Sicilia for $96 through to Champagne Billecart-Salmon 1999 for $325, available to purchase 24 hours a day. Other products include Royal Baikal caviar priced at €420 for 200g and €1,000 for 500g, as well as canned anchovies for €50 a tin.
In 2016, the petrol station sold 17,000 bottles of wine, offering customers 24-hour access to the luxury products.
Clients include Real Madrid footballers Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Owner Victor Fernandez, speaking to El Pais, commented: “Our business concept involves offering much more than a place where you put gas in the tank. That’s why our shop is so well stocked.”
“We also organise caviar, Champagne, wine and cheese tastings,” he added.
The store can take up to €8,000 in a weekend, according to Fernandez.
