Sonoma company launches wine and weed pairings

A Californian cannabis company has started to hold wine and weed pairings.

The Sonoma Cannabis Company, which was set up by engineer Sam Edwards in 2015, launched the event to try a range of marijuana-based products, from marijuana-based pestos to cannabis flowers with local wine.

“It accentuated the intensity of your palate,” Edwards told the New York Times. “We are seeing what works and what flavours are coming out.”

Edwards, who worked alongside the wine industry in his native Sonoma while operating as a civil engineer, is also a board member on the Sonoma County Growers Alliance.

In January, California’s The Wine Industry Network (WIN) announced it would hold a Wine and Weed Symposium in Santa Rosa in August, including the Sonoma Country Grower Alliance, looking at the impact of November’s approval of the recreational use of cannabis in California. It will also look at ways in which the state’s vineyards and cannabis producers can co-exist and collaborate, as well as clarifying the newly implemented law, and looking at areas including regulations, licensing requirements, hospitality, tourism, and farming.
