Mexico beer & Tequila exports to China up in 2016

Mexico’s beer and Tequila exports to China grew in both volume and value in 2016.

Beer, one of Mexico’s main export products to China, grew 35.5% to US$38.59 million, making it the sixth biggest export market after the US, Canada, Australia, Chile and the UK, wrote Mexican news website El Financiero.

In total, the Latin American country exported a record of US$28.14 billion worth of beer abroad last year, a year-on-year increase of 10.7%.

Meanwhile, Tequila exports to China grew by 8.5% year-on-year to US$2.7 million, a mere morsel of the estimated US$1.2 billion worth of Tequila exported in 2016, reported Mexican newspaper Milenio.

The Mexican Ministry of Agriculture said over 196 million litres of Tequila were exported to 98 countries last year, representing a 8.5% growth over previous year.

Mexico’s Tequila production grew 19.6% to 273 million litres in 2016 compared with 2015, it added.
