HK’s top Halloween horror cocktails

Witches Brew at Pirata

Things are getting doubly vile at Pirata this Halloween with their Witches Brew (HK$110) cocktail served from two glass vials.

Chilled in a bubbling, fuming oracle orb, guests can drink their potion from the test tube-shaped vials in slow sips or down in one.

With a few drops of gingerbread syrup, a shot of Wild Turkey whiskey, a splash of Yzaguirre red vermouth and two dashes of orange bitter, this potion is a recipe for a sinfully good time. The Witches Brew is available for those who dare from now until 31 October.

Arabian Nights at The Optimist

Make the night a nostalgic one at The Optimist this Halloween with bar manager Isabella Vannoni’s Arabian Nights cocktail (HK$120).

Inspired by Isabella’s favourite Disney cartoon growing up, the blood red cocktail is served from a smoking Aladdin’s magic lamp which is sure to take Halloween-goers on a magic carpet ride back to their youth.

Featuring Yzaguirre red vermouth, with an evocative aroma of burnt rosemary and peppered syrup, lemon juice and a dash of tabasco, Arabian Nights isup for grabs from now until 31 October.

Try the Optical Delusionist (pictured) made with gin, Dolin Blanc, blue Curacao, lemon, and absinthe or the Cirque Du It (I Dare You) – a devilish mix of vodka, maraschino, raspberry, lemon and simple syrup.

Fingerstirred Old Fashioned at The Pawn Botanicals Bar

Tom Aikens’ The Pawn Botanicals Bar will be magically transformed into a Rippers Sanitorium on 29 October with makeup stations, Halloween nibbles and ‘cocktails from the lab’.

We’re eyeing the Fingerstirred Old Fashioned which looks marvellously just like, erm, a severed finger and is made with Monkey Shoulder and dandelion and burdock bitters adorned with a black sugar rim for HK$90.

Delightful. The bar manager, Tunny Grattidge has really nailed this one…

Beetlejuice at Mak Mak

For another nostalgic throwback to films from our younger/tenderer years, try Beetlejuice at Mak Mak for a steal at HK$60.

A sinful combination of Beefeater gin, pineapple juice, fresh pineapple, fresh chilli, Kaffir lime leaves, Thai lemon juice, sugar syrup and vanilla, Beetlejuice is a gruesome addition to the JIA Group’s edgy, retro-inspired Thai hangout.

Kill Devil at Havana LKF

A devilish combination of Ron Zacapa 23, ginger ale, fresh lime and fresh watermelon, Havana LKF’s Kill Devil (HK$125) comes complete with a Voodoo Doll to a) decorate future cocktails b) give to someone as a nice Halloween gift?

We’ll let you decide.
