Château Margaux heiress to open London wine bar

Heiress to Bordeaux first growth Château Margaux Alexandra Petit-Mentzelopoulos is to open a wine bar in London’s Marylebone.

London-based Alexandra Petit-Mentzelopoulos is set to open a wine bar in Marylebone with business partner Natsuko Perromat du Marais

Alexandra Petit-Mentzelopoulos is the youngest daughter of Corinne Mentzelopoulos, who has been the owner of the celebrated Left Bank estate since 1980.

The new wine bar is an independent project between Petit-Mentzelopoulos and wine enthusiast business partner Natsuko Perromat du Marais.

Perromat du Marais has worked for 10 years for Groupe Alain Ducasse and has been involved with high-profile restaurant openings in London, Paris, Monaco and Tokyo. 

The wine bar will be named Clarette and will be located on the site of the Tudor Rose pub in Marylebone’s Blandford Street. It is set to open at the end of 2016.

Clarette is intended to be a “chic, refined and stylish” wine bar with a “unique” and “exceptional” wine list and wines served “by the glass and at great prices”.

A statement from Petit-Mentzelopoulos’s PR representative said: “Whether you are meeting up with friends, looking for a special spot for a romantic date, or simply a quick glass of wine after work, Clarette is suited to many different occasions.

“From evening gowns to trainers, Clarette is a flexible destination bar breaking all the rules of a traditional wine bar.”

The statement added that although Alexandra is the daughter of Corinne Mentzelopoulos, Clarette is a standalone project which Château Margaux is not involved in.

Alexandra Petit-Mentzelopoulos, who lives in London, earned a bachelor degree in business in Paris, then a masters in art history at Sotheby’s Institute in London. She joined the team at Château Margaux in 2012 as brand ambassador.
