Hallgarten strengthens sales and marketing teams

Wine importer and distributor Hallgarten has strengthened its sales and brand management teams with four new appointments.

The Luton based company has appointed winemaker Ailsa Grice, who comes from a small Domaine in the Languedoc Rousillon, and Bibendum’s Christina Larsson, to its regional Sales team. Grice will take on the West Midlands area, with Larrson taking responsibility for East and West Yorkshire. She joins after three years as an account manager at Bibendum, having previously worked as a sommelier in London and Paris.

Evangelia Tevekelidou has been brought on board by head of buying Steve Daniel to manage Hallgarten’s Greek and “esoteric” producers in the marketing team. She is joined by Italian-born Margherita Tovo, who previously worked as a sommelier for one of Hallgarten’s on-trade clients, Spring in London. Tovo will look after the Italian portfolio.

Managing Director Andrew Bewes said he looked forward to working with the new teams and acknowledged all four newcomers knowledge and passion for wine.

“These are really important appointments for the business which further strengthen our sales and brand management teams,” he said. “Evangelia and Margherita’s qualifications – not to mention language skills – allow us to build upon on our supplier relationships and I’m delighted to welcome them to them to the Hallgarten family, and look forward to working with them to further enhance our service levels to all our customers.”

The company recently added a series of new producers to its portfolio, with wines from Swartland Winery and Bloemendal (South Africa), Kayra (Turkey) and Majoros Birtok (Hungary). Its features more than 1,000 wines from agencies including Gerard Bertrand (Languedoc), Marchesi de’ Frescobaldi (Tuscany), Michele Chiarlo (Piedmont), Feudi di San Gregorio (Campania), Saint Clair (New Zealand), Quady (California), and Carmen (Chile).

Last year the company froze prices for retailers on the back of favourable currency exchange rates and freight costs.
