Lafite 1895 sells for £11,000 in Dubai

A single bottle of Château Lafite 1895 sold for £11,000 at fine wine store Le Clos within Dubai International Airport at the weekend.

The store confirmed that the super rare wine, made just 40 years after the official 1855 classification that confirmed Lafite as a first growth, was sold to an international collector.

“We are committed to offering customers a diverse range of the world’s best wines and spirits including some of the most sought after products, such as the recent sale of Chateau Lafite 1895,” said the store’s general manager Ben Odgers.

“The collectors market is still buoyant in Dubai, recently having also sold classics such as a Château Lafite 1961, Cheval Blanc 1961 in magnum, The Macallan Fine & Rare 1946, and many others,” he added.

In 2011, a bottle of Lafite 1895 sold at Christie’s auction house for £6,670. Michael Broadbent’s tasting note of Lafite 1895 from 1988 reads: “A good, fairly deep colour and a lovely cedar bouquet, which opened up deliciously; deep, sweet, lively but rich, good fruit flavour to match, soft excellent finish.”

Le Clos has carved a niche for selling hard to find fine and rare wines and spirits. The retailer has over 1000 fine wines and 400 luxury spirits in its portfolio.
