Sotheby’s offers ‘greatest ever Burgundy collection’

Sotheby’s has announced that its next New York sale will feature the “greatest Burgundy collection” it has ever offered.

Taking place from 8-9 May, the sale features the collection of financier and philanthropist Don Stott in what will be the highest value single-owner sale the house has staged since 2006.

Having started collecting Burgundy in the 1960s when he lived in France when he was a young man, Stott’s collection spans the greatest labels from the region across large formats and vintages dating back to 1961.

It is widely acknowledged to be one of the most distinguished and illustrious collections of Burgundy in the US.

Serena Sutcliffe, M.W. International Head of Sotheby’s Wine Department commented: “The Don Stott cellar is an unrivalled collection of wine, created by someone with passion that will resonate with all true wine lovers round the world.

“This has to be among the most desirable cellars amassed by anyone, anywhere, born from a devotion to wine that has lasted from the early Sixties. Don Stott has an unerring feel for quality and this shines out from each and every wine in this collection.”
