WineSPIT conference line-up confirmed

Debra Meiburg MW has announced a “bumper” line-up for the inaugural WineSPIT conference in Hong Kong this spring.

Being held on 29 April, WineSPIT (Wine Sales Professionals, Industry and Trade) is a training programme for wine trade staff in Hong Kong which aims to provide – through a mixture of seminars and “hands on” workshops – “essential wine knowledge, sales techniques and best practices that will be directly applicable to their [staff] job performance.”

Over 30 “high-calibre” speakers will feature at the one-day event, including two masters of wine and 10 of Hong Kong’s “prominent” food and beverage professionals alongside other non-industry experts on topics such as branding, marketing and e-commerce.

The conference will feature 15 workshops in three “streams” of five workshops each focused on tasting skills, viti-vini (wine production) and commercial power. Attendees are free to switch between streams throughout the day depending on what best suits their business needs.

Sample workshops will include a look at Amarone, the Loire, exploring soil types, wine faults, supply chain management, branding and marketing communications and “uncorking” Chinese restaurants.

Meiburg, director of Meiburg Wine Media, said: “We are excited to offer this unique training and development opportunity to Hong Kong’s passionate community of wine professionals. The SPIT Conference offers hands-on workshops to all levels and sectors of Hong Kong’s wine trade. From developing the tasting and wine knowledge skills of sales and food and beverage staff, to arming business owners and managers with up-to-the-minute sales and marketing tactics for success, the SPIT Conference has it covered.

“More than that though, we’re offering a setting for debate and discussion on the city’s wine industry issues. Via a number of open forum-style workshops, we’re facilitating cooperation among importers, sales staff, sommeliers and the food and beverage sector so we can together grow Hong Kong’s “wine pie” and industry standards, for the benefit of all.”
