Bibendum PLB Group has announced its new buying team following the recent merger between UK merchants Bibendum and PLB.

Andrew Shaw, buying director for Bibendum PLB Group

Bibendum’s former head of buying Andrew Shaw moves into the post of buying director for the Bibendum PLB Group and will oversee its three companies: Bibendum, PLB and Walker & Wodehouse, which joined the group at the same time as its merger.

The former buying directors at PLB, Paul Meihuizen and Marie Knight, together with former Bibendum buyers Jamie Avenell and Matt Smith, will now make up the four-strong buying team.

Meihuizen will take responsibility for the Americas, South Africa, Germany, Austria and Hungary; Knight will take on France – with the exception of Champagne – Spain and Portugal; Avenall will look after spirits, beer, soft drinks and Champagne; and Smith will focus on Italy, New Zealand, Australia, England and Eastern Europe.

In addition, the buying team will work with three regional consultants in the form of Bibendum’s former buying director for Europe, Stuart Grundy, Burgundy specialist Robert Kinahan MW, and Australian-based Kym Milne MW.

Meanwhile Stephen Walder, formerly of PLB, will oversee technical and quality control for the group.

Describing this new line-up as offering “one of the most talented and dynamic buying teams in the UK wine industry”, Shaw commented: “The depth of knowledge and experience across the team is second to none and will allow us to offer customers an incredible portfolio for every channel.”

Michael Saunders, CEO of the Bibendum PLB Group said: “A stellar buying team is essential for the future of the Bibendum PLB Group and the new team is more than up to the challenge.

“Under the guidance of Andrew Shaw I am confident that the trading companies within the Group will continue to provide customers with an unparalleled range to work with, while also a offering the Bibendum PLB magic that makes us stand out.”
