Raffaele Boscaini is marketing director and coordinator of Masi – a Venetian wine producer world-famous for its Amarone.

What bottle sparked your love of wine?

More than a bottle it was an epiphany when back in 1998 my grandfather Guido Boscaini was celebrating his 50th wedding anniversary with a bottle from each decade – we started with a 1938 Costasera Amarone Classico

Ambition or talent – what matters more?

Ambition is good in order to achieve success, but with no talent you can’t make this happen

What would you be as a wine?

I would be a quite elegant red Burgundy, or a charming, vintage Champagne.

Where are you happiest?

Riding my motorbike in the countryside.

What’s your greatest vice?

Organizing parties over at my house and cooking for everybody – believe me it is a vice, ask my wife!

Best advice you ever got?

Save your energy and “angriness” for things that really matter… there are very few in life

Your cellar’s underwater, which bottle would you dive in and save?

Fojaneghe 1970 – the first Bordeaux blend in Italy since 1961.

What’s the best & worst thing about the wine business?

The best is the chance to travel round the world; the worst is having to be away from home for too long

Which wine would you like served at your funeral?

1990 Costasera Amarone Classico – a memorable vintage
