Ex-england manager launches wine label

Former England manager, Sven-Göran Eriksson, has launched his own wine label, joining the ranks of celebrity winemakers including Cliff Richard, actor Gerard Depardieu and Hollywood superstars Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

Two wines, a white and a red, are currently being produced from vineyards in Sicily under the name ‘Sven’.

Made with indigenous Italian grape varieties, Sven’s white is a blend of Grillo and Fiano grapes, while his red will include a combination of Nero d’Avola and Frappato.

The wines are being made by local winemakers Stefano Girelli and Stefano Chioccioli under the guidance of wine advisor and former British marine, Bill Hermitage.

Introducing the collection he said: “Excellent wine has always been a great passion for me and during my years in Italy, while coaching for AS Roma, ACF Fiorentina, UC Sampdoria and SS Lazio, I travelled all over Italy. Over the years I met wonderful people, tasted fantastic food and experienced some of the most wonderful wines the world has to offer.

“Now years later, I feel the time has come for me to collect my very personal selection of top wines from Italy and share it with you. So with great pleasure I present: Sven The Wine Collection.”

As well as managing the English football team from 2001 to 2006, Sven has won 17 major football trophies with teams from Italy to China.
