Chianti Classico opens wine bar in Florence
A wine bar devoted entirely to Chianti Classico has opened in the heart of Florence this week.
Called the Enoteca Chianti Classico, the new outlet claims to be the only wine bar dedicated to a single DOCG, and can be found on the first floor of the Mercato Central Firenze, which is open all year round from 10am to midnight.

Nestling among 12 boutiques including a restaurant, pizzeria, a cooking school, and bookshop, the Enoteca Chianti Classico is the only place to serve wine in the market.
The bar offers more than 2000 labels for sampling and sales each day, and has seating for 500.
The Enoteca marks the first major operation of the Chianti Classico Company, which is an offshoot of the Chianti Classico Wine Consortium created to handle special projects.
“The Chianti Classico Company is the most innovative expression of the Chianti Classico Consortium, and the first example of a commercial enterprise working for a consortium,” said Michele Zonin, president of the company.
Sergio Zingarelli, president of the Chianti Classico Wine Consortium added, “As of today, in the heart of the city, there is a point of reference for enological excellence devoted to everyone: experts, Florentine aficionados and Italian and foreign visitors.”
The same company is planning to open another similar wine bar for Chianti Classico labels within the Chianti Classico Academy in Radda in Chianti in a few weeks time.
