Frapin is planning truly global distribution for a limited-production £2,000 Cognac called Plume.

Just 500 decanters of Plume Frapin Cognac have been produced

First unveiled at Vinexpo Bordeaux in June this year, just 500 bottles of Plume have been made, each housed in a decanter topped by two rose-gold feathers, sculpted to reference the symbol of Frapin Cognac – the quill.

Priced at €2,500, Plume sits between Frapin’s Extra at €400 and the house’s range topping 1888, which costs €4,000.

According to Jean-Pierre Cointreau, CEO of Cognac Frapin, Plume uses 100% premier cru Grande Champagne Cognac which has been aged for over 60 years in 100 year-old barrels.

In an interview with the drinks business at Vinexpo Bordeaux in June this year, Cointreau said that the Cognac house won’t extend Plume’s production run beyond 500 decanters, even if all the current stock sells out, and noted that 20% of the bottles have already been reserved by Frapin importers in Europe and Asia.

He also said he was intending to distribute the new Cognac worldwide rather than concentrating on any particular market. “I want to put my eggs in different baskets,” he said.

Speaking of Frapin’s €4,000 Cuvée 1888, which contains a blend of very old Cognacs, some of which pre-date 1888, Cointreau told db that 90% of the 1,888 bottles produced have been sold since it was launched six years ago.
