Inverarity Morton appoints new director of wine sales

Scotland’s largest independent drinks distributor, Inverarity Morton (IM), has appointed a new director of wine sales to replace Tarquin de Burgh, who is stepping down after over a decade with the company.

Guy Chatfield has joined IM with over 15 years experience in the industry having worked for the likes of Oddbins, Scottish & Newcastle and Concha y Toro.

As IM held Concha y Toro’s business in Scotland for a number of years, Donald Campbell, sales director at IM, explained that Chatfield was the natural candidate to replace Tarquin: “We’ve known Guy for a long time as we were the sole agent in Scotland for the brand. Over time he became an extension of the team; he knew the inner workings of the company, the personalities and the culture so when we came to speak to each other about this opening, there was little explaining needed.

“He immediately understood the opportunity that this role presented for him to be part of a company that offers an unbeatable package to the on-trade.”

Chatfield added: “The business is in fantastic shape and it’s a great time for me to get on board. IM is a formidable force and few merchants can compete on the overall proposition: the product, the service, the training – I’m so glad I don’t have to compete with them now.”

The privately-owned IM was one of four finalists in the Drinks Business On-Trade Supplier of the Year 2013 award.
