Graffigna and Riedel create Malbec glass

Argentinian winemaker Graffigna has joined forces with glass company Riedel to create a wine glass specifically for Argentina’s flagship Malbec grape.

The glass, which is 13.5cm tall and 8.5cm wide at its widest point, will be launched on 16 April ahead of World Malbec Day, on 17 April.

In a statement Graffigna said the glass has been designed to enhance “the fruit aromas, specifically the red and black berries that are undoubtedly Malbec’s key attributes, floral and spice tones are underlined as well.”

Franco D’Angelo, international brand manager of Graffigna said: “Uniting with Riedel, gave us the chance to create the unique Malbec Glass.

“The Graffigna Malbec Glass developed by Riedel improves the enjoyment of Malbec wines, enhancing the attributes that made this grape variety one of the preferred by consumers and critics alike in recent years.”

To help with the process of crafting the gloss Graffigna and Riedel hosted a tasting workshop at the Argentine Consulate in New York, last October. The tasting brought together wine journalists and recognised Malbec experts to help develop a glass that would shape the taste of Malbec wine.

Maximillian Riedel said: “When designing this glass for Malbec, the characteristics of this variety where profoundly considered in the making of the glass. The ideas where not born on a drawing board, but finely tuned by trial and error with the help and support of some of the greatest palates.”

He added: “Working jointly with Graffigna was a rich experience that enabled Riedel´s family to go deeper into the wonderful Argentina and its wines.”
