Coach sacked after Jägermeister ‘theft’

A football club in Croatia has sacked its manager after he was caught stealing a credit card from a player, and using it to buy 36 bottles of Jägermeister.

Jozo Gaspar was sacked by Croatian first division side NK Zagreb Precko after he was captured on CCTV. Gaspar was pictured at a local store buying an incredible 36 bottles of the popular German herb liqueur.

The football manager then tried to use the card to buy a further 10 bottles at a second shop, just a few hours later, but the purchase was declined due to a lack of funds. When the card was rejected Gaspar was recognised by shop staff, who called the authorities.

Local newspapers have reported that Gaspar has admitted to stealing the credit card from the wallet of a player in a rival team. Gaspar’s club shares its facilities with another club FC Sparta Elektra.

Gaspar was sacked from his position as manager last week, but the reasons behind his dismissal had been kept quiet until now. The former manager made his name as a star player for Croatian football team Dinamo Zagreb during the late 1980s and 1990s, but his promising managerial career now looks to be over.
