Rare Aussie tawnies on sale in travel retail

A rare set of 100-year-old Seppeltsfield tawnies was snapped up within 90 minutes of going on sale, despite its AU$4,000 price tag.

Inside the case

Three sets of the Seppeltsfield Para Tawny Anthology have gone on sale in Australian travel retail.

The sets, each containing 100ml bottles of the Seppeltsfield 1912, 1911, 1910, 1909, 1908 and 1907 vintages, went on sale in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane airports this month.

The Brisbane set was bought less than 90 minutes after going on sale. The remaining two are still available priced at AU$4,000.

The fortified wines are all sourced from Seppeltsfield’s cellars, which has stocks dating back to 1878.

The 1912 vintage was rated 100-points by Australian wine critic James Halliday in his 2013 Wine Companion, the sixth time a 100-year-old release from the winery had been awarded thus.

The three sets – out of only 20 in existence – are being sold by the Nuance Group.

Wine and Champagne manager for the group, James Hunt, said: “Being able to offer this extremely limited edition from Seppeltsfield to our customers helps us deliver our aim of providing an exciting range of travel retail exclusives and sought-after limited editions to customers travelling through our stores in Australia’s airports.”

“We are uniquely positioned to showcase iconic and authentically Australian brands to travellers from Australia and around the world; this rare Anthology set from one of Australia’s oldest wineries is exactly the kind of premium, quality item that we want to bring to this audience.”
