Grandfather fined after throwing beer over a baby

Angry drinker reacted after baby was left alone in a family pub.

Danny Polak was fined £355 after he snapped while drinking in a pub in Nottinghamshire. Polak, 65, poured beer over 15-month-old Finlay White after the baby would not stop sobbing.

Polak was drinking with his wife in the Ernehale pub in Arnold, about five miles outside of Nottingham and Finlay’s mother Rachel Atkin was sitting close by with the baby and her sister-in-law.

When Ms Atkin went to order food, Polak and his wife were angry that she left the disgruntled Finlay by himself.

Catherine Picardo, who was prosecuting the case, told the court: “It was then that Finlay started to whine as though he was missing his mother.

“The defendant, with a half-full pint in his hand, approached the table and poured it over the baby’s head, which caused him to scream.”

When Ms Atkin confronted Polak, he kicked her and told her: “You shouldn’t bring kids into a pub.” Ms Atkin responded by throwing her drink over Polak and shouted at him: “See how you like it.”

Polak then left the pub, but was later arrested. In court he admitted two counts of assault, was fined a total of £355 and he was ordered to pay £50 compensation.

In a statement from his lawyer Polak said he, “accepts that beer went over the baby and that his actions were reckless.”
