Top 10 wine handbags
The traditional handbag has had a make-over after a Swiss creator redesigned it with a special compartment for a bottle of wine.
The makers explained, “The idea was based on the things women do in the day – working, shopping and going to a party.”
Gone are the days it seems when a plastic bag or rucksack is good enough to carry a bottle of vino.
This new handbag got us thinking, so we put together (in reverse order) the top 10 wine handbags on the market and even included one for men.

10. Volere
The ingenious Volére wine handbag is styled to resemble one of those chichi Milanese shoulder bags, it holds 750ml of Italian red, white or rosé, which can be accessed by a discreetly concealed side-tap. Premiered earlier this year by the Californian wine retailer Volére, it has had an enthusiastic reception that hints at how far the market is moving beyond the idea of wine in conventional glass bottles.
Volére (US$13) wraps its wine in a box shaped like a purse – complete with strap.

8. E. & J. Gallo The Wine Purse
E. & J. Gallo launched a box of rosé wine shaped like a purse. Inside is 50 fluid ounces of your wine of choice and is the handbag equivalent to 2 bottles of wine.
In the UK this product has made some impact in the “booze in the box” category.

For the more formal party or a picnic this wine purse is the perfect accompaniment.
The haute couture cylindrical shape is perfectly suited for bottle toting, with metal feet on the bottom to keep it from rolling around. The exterior is full of fashionable details, from the wicker covering to the faux alligator.

Graf & Lantz has designed a stylish “Quiver” for wine transport, perfect for the male wine lover to transport their favourite bottle.
The Quiver keeps the bottle cool and protected for a day at the beach or a visit to friends.
“The Quiver is made of bi-color, 5mm thick merino felt and vegetable tanned leather details,” Graf-Lantz.com explained.
“The side belts are adjustable to snugly fit standard through Champagne bottle sizes.”

Simply take the wine bag out of the box, place it in the Baggy Wine Coat and close the flexible top. A rubber bottom makes sure the Baggy Winecoat does not tip over; neither on the dinner table, nor on the picnic.

Dooney & Bourke offers the chic leather ”Wine Bottle Picnic Tote” for US$295.
The bag, which comes in five colors including a rosy pink,has a crossbody shoulder strap that lets you carry your wine with comfort.
2. Carlotta Clutch Wine Bottle Purse Tote
The Carlotta Clutch Wine Bottle Purse Tote (US$40, Brookstone.com) lets you carry your wine in style, with room for keys and money.
Not the most secure option to carry the precious cargo as an elastic strap is used to keep the bottle secure, but we assume it works.
1. The Envoyage Taschen Weekender bag
A Swiss designer has come up with a rang of bags which have special space for a bottle of wine. Designed by Claudia Eicke, the secret is the “tunnel” portion of the bag which is made of stiffer fabric to hold the wine in place .
The bags are made from French goatskin and come in three chic shades – gold, grey and purple.
“Envoyage’ leather goods are for confident women who value individuality and live spontaneously,” Eicke told Styleclicker website.
“These women are fashionable and appreciate aesthetics as well as functionality, quality, exclusivity, and security in a handbag.”
It retails for around US$1,350 and is available online or in the Eickein’s showroom in Zurich.
