Robinson enlists US blogger for monthly column

Jancis Robinson has appointed a new columnist to report on developments in the US wine industry.

Alder Yarrow of Vinography will produce a monthly piece for JancisRobinson.com called Alder on America.

Writing about the tie-up on his blog, Yarrow noted: “The idea of a monthly column was batted around, and we both ended up thinking it would be a great idea.

“For me it’s a paid writing gig for one of the world’s most respected wine writers. It gives me some exposure to her readers, and it’s a nice feather in my cap.

“For her, it’s additional coverage of the American corner of the wine world, and some more exposure to American audiences (who already make up a sizable chunk of her subscribers).”

Alder’s first post went live yesterday and centred on Antonio Galloni’s first foray into the Californian wine industry on behalf of The Wine Advocate in place of Robert Parker.

Commenting on possible differences between the two palates, Alder highlighted their contrasting views on Corison.

Referring to a post on the bulletin board of Parker’s website last week, Alder pointed out that Galloni had picked out the wines of Cathy Corison as one of the “highlights of the day” after a Napa Valley Vintner tasting.

However, Alder added that Parker has previously described this grower’s wines as “closed”, “difficult” and “muted”.
