St Peter’s releases whisky beer

St. Peter’s brewery has teamed up with The English Whisky Co. to produce a whisky beer.

Called “The Saints Whisky Beer”, the drink is made using the same peated malt that is used at St. George’s Distillery, home of The English Whisky Co.

Once fermented, a portion of Chapter 9 Whisky is added to the beer. The result is a peated “perfectly balanced” beer with smoky over tones.

The English Whisky Co. is the first English whisky distillery in the country for 100 years.

Andrew Nelstrop, managing director of the English Whisky Co. commented: “We are delighted to be working with St. Peter’s Brewery to develop this excellent new and differentiated product.

“With St. Peter’s penetration in worldwide export markets, we are hoping that this product will also introduce consumers to the English Whisky co. and our range of whisky products both abroad as well as in the UK.”

Colin Cordy, managing director of St. Peter’s, added; “In consumer trials we have had some very positive reaction to The Saints Whisky Beer and also distributors in our 32 export markets are very excited about this addition to the St. Peter’s award winning range of beers.”

The beer has an ABV of 4.8% and is packaged in the distinctive St Peter’s oval bottles. It will initially be sold in 150 Waitrose stores across the UK as well as through Ocado and from both St. Peter’s Brewery and The English Whisky Co. websites.
